Fitness for a Cause

It's exciting to me that there are so many options for getting fit AND helping others. I mean it just doesn't get any better than a win - win in my book. A couple of weeks ago I was able to enjoy and support Bridle Trails state park at the Bridle Trails Park Foundations annual Party in the Park. All the proceeds went to help keeping the park off the closure list and provided kids of all ages a reason to come out to play. There was a 5K, 10K and even an ultra 30K walk/run for the fitness minded, face painting and pony rides for the kids, a variety of equestrian riding demonstrations, a dog fly ball competition, BBQ'd hamburgers and hot dogs and much, much more!

Other cool events that I've enjoyed are:

The 1.5 mile swim across Lake Washington that supports the uncompensated care fund for Children's Hospital. The fund makes sure that no child is turned away due to the families inability to pay for care.

The Pineapple Classic which is a 5K obstacle course where you 'run' in teams of 2 or 4 all the while carrying a pineapple! All the proceeds go to benefit the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.

There is the MS 150(mile) bike ride through absolutely beautiful country side. There are different distance options for riders of all levels and abilities. All the proceeds go to MS research, programs that support both the person with MS and their families, out reach and much, much more.

The Trek Triathlon which is a 'sprint' distance triathlon - a 1/2 mile swim, 12.5 mile bike and a 3.2 mile run. The proceeds from the Trek go to cancer research and free fitness classes and a variety of programs for Team Survivor. Team survivor was created to give cancer survivors access to a variety of free fitness programs which include exercise classes in gyms and studios, bike rides and yes triathlon training.

I hope that you are beginning to get the idea that whether you want to swim, bike, run/walk or try a triathlon there is an event that's just right for you that will help you strive towards a fitness goal and support a great cause at the same time which to me is the ultimate win - win situation.
